From the quotations above Beauty means different things to different people (most of the time!) but sometimes we see people or things we generally agree are beautiful!  Think of a “beautiful day” a “beautiful soul” a beautiful person  (Miss SA, Miss World, etc.)

How do know something is beautiful e.g. is a cold winter, hot summer, or warm and humid day beautiful?   Why is one particular person voted the winner of a beauty contest voted the most beautiful when there were or are other girls you know of whom you regard as being more beautiful than the winner, whether they took part in the competition or not?  

 Then the there is the Biblical version of beauty, where works, the inner being, the way a woman conducts and not what a woman wears (on your face or body) is regarded as beauty! 

Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty that depends on fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes.  You should be known for beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.

Outward beauty reveals what we look like, inner beauty reveals who we are and having fellowship with God enables you and I to show HIS beauty.

 The secular media also has its own definitions of beauty; note that there are many definitions, depending on the media and their target audience!!  

For older women, they may be told to grow old gracefully or seek the surgeon’s knife for those that can afford it, younger girls are bombarded with images of models who have made it in the world, e.g. that skinny supermodel who looks like she has not eaten for the last couple of months, the celebrity who has lost so much weight she is starting to resemble a lollipop (big head, small body) and then there are the “in-betweeners” who “yo-yo” from one image to the next depending on what seems fashionable at the time or is regarded as being part of the “beautiful people club”.

 Help, how’s a girl to choose, it’s challenging enough just being born a girl!!!!


Let me just begin by putting it out there :    I LOVE FASHION  – and I don’t mean just anything that is the current trend, but something that makes me feel and look good!!  

Feeling and looking good is what fashion is to me.  My fashion style has an element of classic, a touch of the latest trend, certain colors which make me feel comfortable, you know how some people can only wear certain colors, e.g. black?

Fashion like beauty is, to a  large degree, subjective, what one person regards as beautiful or fashionable may not be another person’s cup of tea!!    I believe that all the money in the world cannot buy you a fashion sense and/or style, for me; it’s a series of triumphs and mishaps until you find the combination that is fashionable for you; for others, fashion is about keeping up with the latest trends and that’s okay too, trends are fashions as well!

There are many blogs on the internet dedicated to highlighting the latest beauty and fashion trends, providing advising on what type of clothing, hairstyles, etc.; certain body shapes are suited to.  You know when people say  you are , pear-shaped, athletic, etc, these blogs and magazines do a good job because some of us can use all the help we can get!!!  

It’s great to be looking and feeling good about your fashion sense, but how does one translate this into a Christian fashion sense?
